David Garrett

Born in Aachen in 1980, German‑American violinist David Garrett began a solo career at an early age before continuing his studies in New York, notably at the Juilliard School with Itzhak Perlman. Initially associated with the classical violin and orchestral repertoire, Garrett gradually moved toward a crossover approach that mixes music of the Romantic tradition with arrangements of rock and pop standards, film music and original compositions. This orientation is reflected on albums such as Free (2007), Virtuoso (2008), Rock Symphonies (2010), Explosive (2015) and Iconic (2022), where he alternates concerto pieces, song transcriptions and more contemporary orchestral themes. His career is divided between collaborations with various European and North American orchestras, projects in amplified group formats and tours in large concert halls and arenas. Garrett also appears on film in The Devil’s Violinist (2013), portraying Paganini and extending his engagement with that composer into his recorded repertoire. This dual positioning between the classical stage and more popular formats shapes the core of Garrett’s artistic path.
