Luka Šulić
Shaped between Slovenia, Croatia and the United Kingdom, Luka Šulić has developed a career as a cellist that moves between the classical repertoire and reinterpretations of popular music. Born in 1987 in Maribor, he grew up with a Slovenian mother and a Croatian father from Dubrovnik, before studying at the Maribor Conservatory, the Zagreb Academy of Music and the Royal Academy of Music in London. Luka Šulić first drew attention in the classical field through several international competitions, then broadened his profile from 2011 as part of the duo 2Cellos, which he founded with Stjepan Hauser; their covers of rock and pop songs for two cellos brought them to concert halls, festivals and arenas. Alongside 2Cellos, Luka Šulić pursues a solo career, performing with various European orchestras and cultivating a repertoire that ranges from baroque music to arrangements of film scores. His 2019 recording “Vivaldi: The Four Seasons” marks an important milestone in this solo activity, in which he seeks to reconcile classical rigor, short-form formats and a more direct approach to the audience.
