Kieran Goss
Born in Mayobridge, in County Down, Northern Ireland, Kieran Goss has since the late 1980s developed a writing style situated between acoustic folk, country and singer-songwriter pop, carried by a sober voice and a marked taste for clear melodies. Kieran Goss begins his discography with Brand New Star in 1989, then follows with New Day in 1994, before expanding his audience in Ireland in the late 1990s with Worse Than Pride in 1998 and Red-Letter Day in 2000. His work also circulates through other performers, notably Mary Black, who recorded two of his songs early in her career. In 2005, Kieran Goss releases Blue Sky Sunrise, recorded in Tennessee and produced with Rodney Crowell and Peter Coleman, a step that intensifies the Americana dimension of his repertoire without breaking with his folk roots. The rest of his career alternates studio and live formats with Trio Live in 2008, I’ll Be Seeing You in 2009, For The Record in 2010 and Solo in 2014. Kieran Goss has also developed a duo project with Annie Kinsella, documented by the album Oh, The Starlings in 2019, where vocal harmonies and narrative writing occupy a central place. Based in Ireland, in County Sligo, Kieran Goss remains associated with a scene of acoustic song attentive to the lyrics, minimalist arrangements and the flows between Irish traditions and North American songwriting.
