DJ Stingray
Based in Detroit, producer and DJ Sherard Ingram, who performs as DJ Stingray and Stingray313, situates himself within the city's electro legacy while emphasizing the genre's more futuristic and abrasive side. Emerging from the local early-1990s scene, he has honed a style marked by fast tempos, fragmented rhythms and a sustained tension between funk and techno influences and sci‑fi atmospheres. DJ Stingray drew attention by performing with Drexciya, an experience that reinforced his grounding in a dystopian electro aesthetic and led him to develop a masked stage identity. At the same time, Sherard Ingram was involved in the Urban Tribe project; the collective's album “The Collapse of Modern Culture,” released in 1998 on Mo Wax, is a significant milestone in his career, followed by several singles and albums under his own names for European and American labels. Under the DJ Stingray or Stingray313 banner, he has released since the 2000s dense, often dissonant electro aimed at clubs, and he spreads this sound across techno and experimental scenes in Europe, North America and Asia, notably via his label Micron Audio, dedicated to the most direct and futuristic variants of Detroit electro.
