DJ Raff
Born in Santiago, Chile in 1976 under the name Rafael Pérez, DJ Raff trained in the Chilean hip-hop scene of the early 1990s, first with La Frecuencia Rebelde and then within La Pozze Latina, where he blends turntables, production, rap and arrangements. His career later expands into a broader network of collaborations with groups and artists from the Chilean scene such as Tiro de Gracia, Los Tetas or Chancho en Piedra, before the duo DJ Raff & Solo Di Medina, active at the turn of the 2000s and author of the albums TTBA in 2001 and Dos Jugadores in 2003. As a solo artist, DJ Raff develops a writing that crosses instrumental hip-hop, electronica, trip-hop, bass music and Latin American references, with a marked taste for syncopated rhythms, dark textures and percussive collages. This orientation takes shape on Raffolution in 2006, then on Travelling Partners EP in 2008, Travelling Partners EP Vol. II in 2009, Collage Binario in 2011, Latino & Proud in 2011, Time & Hope EP in 2012, Echoes EP in 2014 and Tornado EP in 2015. Based between Latin America and international electronic music circuits, DJ Raff has also presented his sets and live performances at festivals such as Sónar, Mutek, Primavera Sound or Vive Latino, while pursuing in parallel the RVSB project with Latin Bitman.
