DJ Gilb'r

Active since the late 1980s, DJ Gilb'R, real name Gilbert Cohen, is a French DJ, producer and composer born in Nice, associated with an open electronic music that moves between house, techno, disco, downtempo and more abstract experimentation. Established in the French electronic music scene through his club sets as well as his label work, DJ Gilb'R founded Versatile Records in the mid-1990s, a label that supports both the intersections between club and listening contexts and more oblique forms of electronic music. His career also developed in a duo with I:Cube within Château Flight, a project launched in the late 1990s, where house and ambient textures take a freer turn, often fueled by improvisation and psychedelic influences. As a solo artist, DJ Gilb'R has released several maxis and albums under his name, including Plein Soleil (1999) and The Other Scene (2012), with an approach that blends minimal pulsation, sonic collages, decentered grooves and a taste for hybrid formats. A familiar figure on club scenes, radio and festival stages, DJ Gilb'R holds a distinctive place in the recent history of French electronic music, at the junction between DJ culture, studio production and the work of a passer.
