Marie Klock
Initially a keyboardist from 2014 to 2020 in several bands linked to francophone local and DIY scenes, Marie Klock then developed a solo project focused on writing her own songs. Her universe sits at the crossroads of off-kilter pop, minimalist songcraft and an experimental aesthetic built on deliberate displacements: Marie Klock sings, speaks and sometimes shouts over compositions that deviate from the most expected pop formats and toy with deliberate mismatches. Her lyrics bring together intimate subjects, such as loneliness, and more concrete or absurd motifs — among them insects and baldness — in a language where dry humour can quickly give way to a certain roughness. On stage she relies on the timbres of 1970s electro-mechanical pianos, whose warmth and proximity create a sharp contrast with the frontal directness of some pieces. The move from bands to solo outlines a trajectory founded on an economy of means, orality and a pronounced taste for the incongruous.
