Synsnake
Active since 2015 in Seoul, Synsnake develops a crossover of metalcore, electronicore and K-pop references that the band sometimes summarizes as “K-popcore.” The project first attracted attention on South Korea’s indie scene with a formula where clean vocals and harsher parts coexist with prominent synths, abrupt rhythms and songwriting that draws on both modern rock and electronic pop. After an initial phase marked by the demo Demo-Mixtape and the 2016 EP Revelaction, Synsnake followed with Abstraction in 2017, presenting a heavier and more direct version of its sound. Several lineup changes accompanied this period before the group stabilized again in the late 2010s. In 2021 Synsnake joined Watch Out! Records and released its first album, Fluxus, which synthesizes melodic choruses, metalcore breakdowns, trance elements and digital arrangements. Synsnake has also performed outside South Korea — notably in Japan, at the Jeonju Ultimate Music Festival in 2019 and at RockFest in Vietnam in 2023 — within a circuit where modern metal, alternative rock and the Asian indie scene intersect.
