Rolling Quartz

Born from the merger of the independent outfits Rolling Girlz and Rose Quartz, the South Korean rock band Rolling Quartz formed in Seoul in the late 2010s. The group comprises Jayoung on vocals, Iree and Hyunjung on guitars, Areum on bass and Yeongeun on drums. Initially active on the capital’s indie scene and known for rock covers of K-pop tracks published online, Rolling Quartz refined a sound that blends melodic hard rock, alternative rock and elements borrowed from Korean pop and J-rock. The guitars occupy a central place, driven by assertive riffs and melodic solos, while Jayoung’s voice remains firmly in a pop-rock register, giving Rolling Quartz’s compositions an accessible structure despite an energy that borders on metal. The band made its official debut in 2020 with the digital single “Blaze”, then released the mini-album “Fighting” in 2022, which gathers studio tracks and several versions of their songs. Present on various rock stages in South Korea and regularly active on social media and streaming platforms, Rolling Quartz occupies a place in the Korean rock landscape as an all-female quintet with a visual aesthetic inspired both by K-pop culture and more classic rock codes.
