Mud Morganfield

Born in Chicago in 1954 under the name Larry Morganfield, Mud Morganfield writes himself into the city’s blues history while developing his own path as a singer and bassist. The eldest son of Muddy Waters, he grows up far from an immediate musical career, first playing drums then bass, before taking the stage in the early 2000s in the South Side clubs of Chicago. Mud Morganfield here revisits part of the repertoire of classic Chicago blues and adds his own songs, in a style anchored in traditional electric blues, characterized by slow tempos, shuffle, a deep voice and a direct approach inherited from the urban forms of the Mississippi transposed to Chicago. After a first live show with The Dirty Aces and the album Fall Waters Fall in 2008, he releases Son of the Seventh Son in 2012 on Severn Records, followed by The Blues Is in My Blood in 2013. In 2014, Mud Morganfield records with Kim Wilson For Pops: A Tribute to Muddy Waters, before continuing with They Call Me Mud in 2018 and Portrait in 2022 on Delmark Records. Present on American and European blues stages, Mud Morganfield maintains a clear link with the Chicago blues tradition while placing it in an active trajectory started late but built over time.
