Bellboy

Rooted in today’s French pop scene, the duo Bellboy explores a meeting between chanson and baroque pop, tinged with cinematic atmospheres. Based in a small studio cluttered with comic books, a collection of bells and stacks of DVDs, the members of Bellboy compose their songs in an environment that fuels a visual imagination shaped by Moebius’s drawn landscapes and René Laloux’s animated worlds. Each track is approached as an experimental space, with particular attention paid to arrangements, transitions and narrative ambiances, in a vein that brings together the film music of François de Roubaix, the eclecticism of Ryūichi Sakamoto and the airy pop of Air, while remaining mindful of the legacy of French chanson associated with Brigitte Fontaine and Yves Simon. Since the early 2020s, Bellboy has been sharing these songs online and on stage, gradually consolidating a repertoire where melancholic melodies, dreamlike textures and contemporary pop songwriting intersect.
