Mijk Van Dijk

Born in Geesthacht in 1963 and based in Berlin, Mijk van Dijk belongs to the first generation of the German techno scene. Initially a bassist in funk bands in northern Germany and later in Berlin, he turned to electronic production in the late 1980s, as house and techno were taking shape around clubs such as Ufo. Mijk van Dijk released his first tracks in the early 1990s, notably under the names Loopzone, Microglobe and Marmion, and developed a style that blends techno, trance, house and ambient with a marked taste for narrative forms and tracks designed for mixing. His album Afreuropamericasiaustralica, released in 1994 under the Microglobe name, was followed by Glow in 1997, Teamwork in 1999 and Everyground in 2002. Over the years he has collaborated with Cosmic Baby, Tanith, DJ Hell and Marcos Lopez, and has also composed for film, fashion and several video games, including Ghost in the Shell and Ridge Racer V. A prominent figure in the early Berlin techno culture, he also played extensively in Japan, where he developed several projects and collaborations. Since the 2010s Mijk van Dijk has also explored a funk and electro side with nuFunkFiles, while continuing his work as a DJ and producer through his Microglobe label.
