Pligten Kalder
Born in Denmark in 2007, Pligten Kalder took shape around Torben Steno and Johan Olsen, before the arrival of Peter Bech‑Jessen, who completed this unusual trio with voice, Optigan organ, saxophone and clarinet. Pligten Kalder works within a rock register but adopts a deliberately offbeat aesthetic, driven by Danish lyrics that play with the absurd, observation and dry humour, far removed from the classic rock format. The band’s path is also notable in the Danish music landscape through Johan Olsen, also known from Magtens Korridorer, while Torben Steno comes from journalism. Their first concert took place at Huset i Magstræde in 2007, the same year the EP Pligten Kalder was released. The first full‑length, Du Skulle Have Været Der Igår!, did not appear until 2014. Between spoken‑word rock, minimal tension and atypical instrumentation, Pligten Kalder has developed since its beginnings a concise and singular form, standing apart on the Danish scene.
