Maddie Ashman

Based in London, Maddie Ashman is developing a project at the crossroads of avant-pop, contemporary composition and electronic production, with work focused on microtonality and tuning systems based on just intonation. A multi-instrumentalist, she initially circulates her music in multidisciplinary contexts, notably writing for theatre, film, podcasts and exhibitions, before asserting a more directly pop form in releases under her own name. Maddie Ashman released the EP Don't Come Back in 2024, where soft vocal lines, string textures, precise melodic writing and rhythms borrow as much from alt-pop as from more experimental constructions. Her more recent tracks extend this inquiry with an approach that makes perceptible unusual intonation deviations without breaking the song format. In this context, Maddie Ashman builds an aesthetic that is both accessible and idiosyncratic, where harmonic writing, timbres and arrangements play a central role, weaving together classical references, singer-songwriter sensibilities and laboratory pop.
