Aziz Konkrite
Franco‑Moroccan DJ and producer Aziz Konkrite has, for decades, developed a practice that links club culture, Maghrebi popular music and the legacy of hip‑hop. Trained in selecting funk, soul, hip‑hop, boogie and world music, this record collector honed his ear between Montpellier, Nottingham, Paris, Casablanca, Lille, Prague, Ghent and Brighton, where he performs DJ sets, produces beats and organizes events. A child of hip‑hop and DIY culture, Aziz Konkrite builds his sets and productions from 45‑RPM singles he hunts and archives on motorcycle trips across Morocco, sustaining a long‑term engagement with traditions such as Chaâbi, Aïta, Raggada, Amarg and Gnaoua. His project Siba Sawt‑System extends this inquiry as a sound system conceived as a "sono mondiale", where "siba" refers to a contestatory energy and "sawt" to a direct relation to sound; within it Aziz Konkrite makes North African popular archives converse with contemporary electronic rhythms and collective uses of dance.
