Koumiya

Under the name Koumiya, Leïla Koumiya develops a DJ and production project positioned between club cultures and the musical heritages of North Africa and the Amazigh world. Franco‑Moroccan and based in Nancy, Koumiya was initially one of the founding members of the duo Taxi Kebab, active from 2018 to 2022, before pursuing a solo path focused on DJing and a forthcoming live project. Her sets rely on percussive textures, syncopated rhythms and a constant flow between bass music, mahragan, drum’n’bass and Arab and Amazigh sonorities, with an approach that links dance, memory and movement across scenes. Koumiya also situates her work in the current musical landscape of the SWANA regions, which she explores through selections that mix club energy with careful attention to rhythmic nuance. A resident on Radio Flouka and involved in organising events in Nancy, Koumiya is developing a practice that is both musical and curatorial, where the mix becomes a meeting point between diasporic references, electronic music and contemporary festive forms.
