Balladur
Born out of the French independent scene in the early 2010s, Balladur has developed a project where pop blends with more experimental forms. The band crafts songs built on repetitive rhythms, simple melodic motifs, and electronic textures interwoven with more organic elements, resulting in a whole that draws as much from synth-pop as from certain strains of post-punk and so-called 'tropical' music. Balladur is embedded in a network of alternative labels and venues, moving between small venues, squats, and human-scale festivals, which shapes a sonic aesthetic that is often raw yet attentive to detail. A first full-length, Plage noire, plage blanche, appeared in 2015 and established a songwriting approach marked by loops and chiaroscuro vocals, while La vallée, la forêt, le jardin, released in 2019, stretches this approach toward slower, almost contemplative atmospheres. Across its recordings and live shows, Balladur explores a ridgeline between minimalist chanson, off-kilter pop, and intimate electronic music, while maintaining a strong footing in DIY and the French underground.
