Maia Sharp

Born in California’s Central Valley and raised in Los Angeles during her childhood, Maia Sharp developed writing skills and learned several instruments at an early age before studying music theory at California State University, Northridge. Maia Sharp operates in a register that blends country, rock, folk and acoustic pop, with songwriting focused on melody, restrained arrangements and a singer-songwriter approach informed by both the American scene and more intimate formats. After her first concerts in the early 1990s, she recorded Hardly Glamour in 1997 on Ark 21, then went on to release Maia Sharp (2002), Fine Upstanding Citizen (2005), Echo (2009), Change the Ending (2012), The Dash Between the Dates (2015), Mercy Rising (2021) and Reckless Thoughts (2023). Her career also includes the 2002 project Everything Waits to Be Noticed with Art Garfunkel and Buddy Mondlock. Alongside her solo discography, Maia Sharp works as a songwriter for other performers—her songs have been recorded by artists such as Cher, Trisha Yearwood, Edwin McCain and Kathy Mattea—and she has collaborated over the years with musicians like Lisa Loeb, Carole King and Jonatha Brooke.
