Bonnie Bishop

Trained in Texas, where she studied at the University of Texas at Austin, Bonnie Bishop has, since the early 2000s, developed a songwriting style rooted in country, southern rock, Americana and understated soul, carried by a warm voice and a direct sense of storytelling. Bonnie Bishop released a self-titled debut in 2002, followed by Long Way Home (2004), Soft to the Touch (2005) and Things I Know (2009), after a decade spent on the road and on American roots stages. Her work as a songwriter gained prominence when Bonnie Raitt recorded "Not Cause I Wanted To", co-written with Big Al Anderson, and later "Undone", while "The Best Songs Come From Broken Hearts" appeared on the series Nashville in 2013. After a break devoted in part to studying creative writing, Bishop returned with Free in 2012 and Ain't Who I Was in 2016, produced by Dave Cobb, where her music moved more clearly towards stripped-down soul-country. She later issued House Sessions Vol. 1 and The Walk in 2019, and American Dream in 2024.
