Bonnie Tyler

Born in Skewen, Wales in 1951, Bonnie Tyler began performing in local clubs in the mid‑1970s and soon attracted attention on the British pop‑rock scene. A vocal cord operation left her with a distinctive raspy timbre, and she developed a style blending melodic rock, dramatic ballads and touches of country and soft rock. Her debut album The World Starts Tonight (1977) established her presence, and Natural Force (1978) consolidated her international profile. The major turning point came with Faster Than the Speed of Night (1983), produced with Jim Steinman, which steered her music toward an aesthetic of wide‑ranging, cinematic power ballads. Albums such as Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire (1986), Hide Your Heart (1988) and Bitterblue (1991) extended that vein between FM rock and mainstream pop, with significant contributions from Anglo‑Saxon songwriters. Tyler subsequently pursued a variety of projects — covers, studio records and occasional collaborations — including Heart Strings (2003), Rocks and Honey (2013), Between the Earth and the Stars (2019) and The Best Is Yet to Come (2021). Representing the United Kingdom at Eurovision in 2013 with “Believe in Me,” she remains associated with the image of a stage performer active on tours across Europe and beyond.
