Igor Cavalera

Born in Belo Horizonte in 1970, Igor Cavalera established himself from his teenage years as one of the architects of Sepultura's sound, a band he formed with his brother Max in 1980s Brazil. His drumming, initially rooted in raw thrash metal, accompanied the band's evolution toward heavier, more syncopated forms—between death metal, groove metal and rhythms inspired by Brazilian music. Igor Cavalera appears on the key albums of that period, from Morbid Visions (1986) and Schizophrenia (1987) to Beneath the Remains (1989), Arise (1991), Chaos A.D. (1993) and Roots (1996), before continuing with Sepultura through Dante XXI (2006). In parallel, he participated in Nailbomb, a more confrontational industrial project documented by Point Blank (1994). After leaving Sepultura in 2006, Igor reunited with Max in Cavalera Conspiracy, releasing several albums between 2008 and 2017. His career also includes Mixhell, an electronic outlet he developed as a producer and DJ, where he shifted his taste for percussion toward a more club-oriented, tense, physical music marked by intersections of techno, punk and industrial textures.
