Aïta Mon Amour
Born from a dialogue between Moroccan oral heritage and contemporary electronic creation, Aïta Mon Amour brings together Moroccan singer Widad Mjama and producer Khalil Epi around the aïta, a form of sung poetry transmitted for centuries by the cheikhates. The duo reclaims this tradition without fossilizing it, allowing song, spoken declamation and the vernacular to coexist with spare electronic textures, slow rhythms and economical production. Aïta Mon Amour emerged in the early 2020s with an approach that situates the aïta in a contemporary context while recalling its popular, rural and feminine dimensions. Widad Mjama’s experience in rap and oral poetry informs the voice’s striking directness, while Khalil Epi constructs a minimal sonic environment that places Aïta Mon Amour at the crossroads of traditional, experimental and electronic scenes. With Abda, released in 2024, Aïta Mon Amour further refines this work of transmission and reinterpretation, between Moroccan memory, contemporary pulse and narrative vocal forms.
