Belvedere
Born in the mid-1990s out of Calgary’s punk scene in Canada, Belvedere sits within the skate punk and North American melodic hardcore tradition, favoring fast tempos, technical guitars and vocal harmonies. Led by singer/guitarist Steve Rawles, the band went through several line-up changes while maintaining a songwriting approach built around complex structures—tight riffs, melodic passages and group choruses. Belvedere first gained attention on the DIY circuit and through tours in North America and abroad, helping spread Canadian skate punk across various independent scenes. Their studio albums include Because No One Stopped Us (1998), Angels Live in My Town (2000), ’Twas Hell Said Former Child (2003) and Fast Forward Eats the Tape (2004), followed by a split in 2005. Reformed in the early 2010s, Belvedere resumed touring and released The Revenge of the Fifth (2016) and Hindsight Is The Sixth Sense (2021), continuing a style focused on melodic energy and dense rhythmic writing.
