LEYA
From New York, LEYA brings together harpist Marilu Donovan and violinist-singer Adam Markiewicz in a duo that intersects warped chamber music, ambient, drone, art pop and noise experimentation. LEYA drew attention in the late 2010s for a very spare approach to harp and violin, used less as classical instruments than as sources of tension, friction and suspended melody. After The Fool in 2018 and Flood Dream in 2020, both released on NNA Tapes, LEYA has built a trajectory between DIY stages, art spaces and cross-disciplinary collaborations. In 2018 the duo also composed the soundtrack for Brooke Candy’s film I Love You, and they have since pursued several joint projects, notably Angel Lust with Eartheater in 2019 and Eyeline in 2022, a mixtape featuring multiple guests. LEYA’s music often moves at low volume, with sparse arrangements, unstable harmonies and a voice that slips between singing, lament and abstraction. Over the years LEYA has also worked with artists such as Liturgy, Actress and Okay Kaya, while developing projects for fashion, dance and visual installations.
