Sunami

Born in San Jose, California, within the Bay Area hardcore scene, Sunami took shape in 2019 around musicians who had played in several local bands, including Gulch, Drain, Hands of God, Spinebreaker and Lead Dream. Originally conceived as a short, satirical project, Sunami quickly exceeded that scope after a debut show that made a mark on the local DIY circuit and went on to establish itself in the American hardcore revival. The band developed a sound rooted in beatdown and metallic hardcore, with touches of slam, death metal, thrash and d‑beat, driven by short, densely packed songs, crushing tempos and direct vocal delivery. After the Demonstration demo in 2019, Sunami released the Sunami EP in 2020, the Sunami / Gulch split in 2021 and the LP Promo in 2022. Their first full-length, also titled Sunami, came out in 2023. In 2025 Sunami added the Coast to Coast split with Pain of Truth to their discography. Alongside studio releases, Sunami has been active on North American and international hardcore stages, appearing at festivals and touring Europe, Japan and Australia, maintaining a group dynamic closely tied to the collective energy of the Bay Area.
