Chastity
Around the project Chastity, led by Canadian musician Brandon Williams, crystallizes a songwriting shaped by suburban life in the Whitby, Ontario area and by the local punk scenes of the province’s south. Chastity emerged in the mid-2010s with cassettes and EPs circulated through DIY channels, and then came into its own with the album Death Lust in 2018, which established an aesthetic that blends punk, post-hardcore, indie rock and touches of shoegaze, driven by dense guitars and direct melodies. The album Home Made Satan (2019) deepened this blend, placing greater emphasis on more pop-oriented structures without abandoning the tension inherited from hardcore, while Suffer Summer (2022) explores brighter textures and addresses themes of precarity, mental health and social disillusionment.
