Chuwi

Born in Isabela on Puerto Rico’s northwest coast, Chuwi took shape in 2019 around siblings Willy, Lorén and Wester Aldarondo, later joined by Adrián López. The quartet has developed a sound that sits between tropical music and neo-psychedelia, with songs where Caribbean rhythms, vocal harmonies and psychedelic-tinged arrangements intersect in a flexible, often melancholic pop format. In their lyrics Chuwi addresses themes tied to Puerto Rico’s contemporary context — migration, gentrification and the question of independence — in the wake of the mobilizations that marked the island in the late 2010s. After an initial emergence on the local indie scene, Chuwi released the EP Pan in 2022 and Tierra in 2024, two releases that more clearly established their musical identity. The band broadened its visibility with “Weltita,” recorded with Bad Bunny and included on Debí Tirar Más Fotos in 2025. Rooted in Puerto Rico, tropical pop and psychedelic textures, Chuwi is part of a new generation of island bands attentive to social realities as well as musical forms.
