Avishai Cohen Trio

Rooted in the New York jazz scene of the 1990s, Israeli bassist, vocalist and composer Avishai Cohen developed the Avishai Cohen Trio as a project focused on the piano‑bass‑drums format, which has become one of his primary modes of expression. After early work with Chick Corea and a lasting presence on the contemporary jazz scene, Cohen has refined through successive trios a writing style that blends the legacy of modern jazz, Eastern European motifs, Middle Eastern influences and vocal melodies in several languages. The Avishai Cohen Trio favors an acoustic, strongly melodic sound, marked by asymmetric rhythms, defining bass lines and a constant dialogue between improvisation and composition. The current lineup brings together Itay Simhovich on piano and Eviatar Slivnik on drums, two musicians from Israel’s younger scene, around a repertoire that combines recent compositions with older pieces rearranged for this trio. With the album Brightlight, released in 2024 on Naïve, the trio continues to explore an open‑edged chamber jazz played on club and festival stages across Europe, North America and the Middle East.
