Avishai Cohen Trio

First revealed as a member of Chick Corea's trio in the late 1990s, double bassist and singer Avishai Cohen has since built a career as a composer and arranger that matters in today’s jazz. Leading his Avishai Cohen Trio, he develops an acoustic sound in which the double bass structures the discourse, moving between sung melodies and asymmetric rhythms. His pieces blend the legacy of modern jazz, Eastern European motifs and Near Eastern influences, with a sense of narrative that shifts moods without forcing the effect. Faithful to an open, flexible trio dynamic, he is joined here by two musicians from Israel’s young scene: Itay Simhovich on piano and Eviatar Slivnik on drums. Together they perform a repertoire that spans his recent compositions and rearranged older themes, in the continuity of the album Brightlight. Avishai Cohen Trio will be at the New Morning, 7 rue des Petites Écuries, 75010 Paris, on 7 May 2026, for a concert that emphasizes listening, dialogue and an immediately recognizable sound.
