Avishai Cohen Trio

First brought to prominence alongside Chick Corea in the late 1990s, double bassist and singer Avishai Cohen has forged a career in which composition and arrangement are as central as improvisation. His trio — a format he favors — blends an acoustic sound, asymmetrical rhythms and sung melodies nourished by Near Eastern influences and Eastern European motifs. Surrounded by young musicians, he continually develops his repertoire by alternating recent compositions with rearranged themes.

On 6 May 2026 at New Morning, Avishai Cohen appears with Itay Simhovich on piano and Eviatar Slivnik on drums. Expect the close dialogue of the rhythm section, bass lines that give form to the whole, and a fluid interplay between written material and freedom. Following Brightlight, released in 2024, the trio continues its path: chamber jazz with open contours, traversed by pulses from elsewhere and by vocals that shift from one language to another, presented in an intimate club setting that places attentive listening front and center.
