Automelodi
Behind Automelodi is Xavier Paradis, a Montreal-based musician whose career dates back to the late 1990s, when he was already composing electro-pop under the name Arnaud Lazlaud. Officially launched in 2006, Automelodi later became the primary form of his solo project, with occasional collaborations on stage and in the studio, notably with Hayden Payne and Liz Wendelbo. Automelodi’s music sits at the intersection of synth-pop, minimal wave, coldwave and French-language electronic songcraft, featuring tracks in French built around dry synthesizer lines, mechanical rhythms and a deliberately off-kilter melodic approach. The first album, Automelodi, was released in 2010 on Wierd Records; Surlendemains acides followed in 2013 and was later reissued by Holodeck Records. In 2019 Automelodi issued Mirages au futur verre-brisé, presented in particular during a European tour. The project thus operates within scenes tied to independent synthesized music, between post-punk inheritance, cold textures and francophone pop songwriting, with a clear continuity between Xavier Paradis’s early work and the identity developed under the name Automelodi.
