Archgoat

Formed in Turku, Finland, in 1989 around brothers Lord Angelslayer and Ritual Butcherer, Archgoat occupies an intersection of primitive black metal, death metal and war metal, with an intentionally raw, heavy and martial sound built on shifts between violent accelerations, slow, massive riffs and deep, rough vocals. After the demos Jesus Spawn (1991) and Penis Perversor (1993) and the EP Angelcunt (Tales of Desecration) (1993), Archgoat ceased activity the same year before reforming in 2004. Relaunched as a trio, the band released Angelslaying Black Fucking Metal in 2004 and their first full-length Whore of Bethlehem in 2006, which firmly established their aesthetic—more compact than chaotic—fed as much by the early eras of black metal as by the heaviness of death metal. Their discography continued with The Light-Devouring Darkness (2009), The Apocalyptic Triumphator (2015), The Luciferian Crown (2018) and Worship the Eternal Darkness (2021). Active on European, North American and Asian stages, Archgoat has also shared releases with Black Witchery and Beherit while remaining associated with the Finnish extreme underground.
