Årabrot

Formed in Haugesund, Norway, in the early 2000s, Årabrot first developed around Kjetil Nernes, with Vidar Evensen and Jon Øvstedal, in a register blending noise rock, sludge metal, doom and post-punk. The band built its trajectory on abrasive, tense and often minimalist music, where massive guitars intersect a marked taste for repetitive structures, dark atmospheres and writing influenced by literary and philosophical references. After the first albums Rogues Gallery (2003), Proposing a Pact with Jesus (2005) and Rep.Rep (2006), Årabrot continued with The Brother Seed (2009), Revenge (2010), Solar Anus (2011) and a self-titled album in 2013. Over the years, the project has tightened around Kjetil Nernes, with regular participation of Karin Park and Stian Skagen, while Årabrot's aesthetics opened to more melodic and gothic forms without leaving its rough base. This evolution is heard notably on The Gospel (2016), Who Do You Love (2018), Norwegian Gothic (2021) and Of Darkness and Light (2023). Årabrot has also played in varied contexts, from rock venues to performances around silent films and commissions for artistic institutions.
