David Castello-Lopes

Based in Paris, David Castello-Lopes runs, alongside his work as a journalist and creator of video columns, a musical project focused on francophone pop songwriting. Trained in writing through his explanatory and humorous work on the French media, he brings that taste for detail and pedagogy into songs where storytelling plays an important role; the lyrics are often structured like small personal investigations or observations of everyday life. His recordings, which began appearing on platforms in the early 2020s, move between light electronic pop, influences from chanson française and touches of indie pop, with a marked attention to melodic clarity and clear articulation of the words. David Castello-Lopes’s voice remains prominent, supported by restrained arrangements that favor verse–chorus structures and generally brisk tempos, sometimes contrasted by more melancholic themes.
