Vienna Vienna
Under the name Vienna Vienna, James Barre has developed a solo project focused on pop songwriting and live performance, where the stage presence is as important as the recordings. A multi-instrumentalist, Vienna Vienna operates where 2000s pop-punk, queer pop, soft rock and glam touches intersect, delivering melodic, direct songs often marked by a tension between upfront energy and deliberate vulnerability. His trajectory stems from an intimate relationship with music—initially a refuge from anxiety, later a means to speak more openly about identity, desire and self-acceptance. This personal dimension informs both his lyrics and his concerts, which are conceived as moments of sharing rather than mere stage display. In its early development Vienna Vienna followed an independent route before joining PULSE Records, with a release also supported by DCD2, Pete Wentz’s label. The project thus asserts a focused, emotional and accessible aesthetic at the crossroads of alternative pop and contemporary melodic rock.
