Avery*Sunshine
AverySunshine, the stage name of Denise Nicole White, was born in Chester, Pennsylvania, and later moved to Atlanta, where her career took shape between church, studies at Spelman College and the local scene. A pianist from childhood, with roots in classical repertoire, jazz and gospel, AverySunshine developed a songwriting approach focused on voice and keyboards, at the crossroads of contemporary R&B, soul and neo‑soul, with a strong presence of African‑American religious traditions. In Atlanta she first formed the duo DaisyRew with Maia Nkenge Wilson, then continued as AverySunshine after meeting guitarist, producer and writer Dana Johnson, who became a long‑standing collaborator. An early track, "Stalker", recorded in the mid‑2000s and later adapted in a house vein, led to bookings in Japan. She released the album AverySunshine in 2010, The SunRoom in 2014, Twenty Sixty Four in 2017 and So Glad to Know You in 2024. Her music remains tied to piano‑driven soul formats, with gospel inflections, supple R&B grooves and occasional detours into jazz. On stage, AverySunshine has performed in the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe and Africa, while also working as a musician and choir director with artists from the soul, pop and performance scenes.
