AADJA
AADJA grew up in a working-class family in Newfoundland on Canada’s east coast, singing from childhood but never finding her place within the school system or formal music institutions. Marked by bullying during her school years, she discovered queer clubs at 16 — a sense of belonging that became central to her development and to her relationship with music. As a producer and vocalist, AADJA then built an electronic music project rooted in club culture, placing the voice at the heart of tense, dark and confrontational compositions. Having already made a name for herself on electronic scenes, she received an autism and ADHD diagnosis as an adult during a period also marked by tensions in her professional environment and a breakup. She left Canada and moved to Berlin with the intention of rebuilding her life and work. It is in this context that AADJA composed NEOFORMA alone, with a microphone and a failing computer, giving her music a new direction nourished by club experience, intimate songwriting and a highly embodied way of making voice and electronics converse.
