Camp Claude

Led by Franco-American musician Diane Sagnier, Camp Claude brings together the Swede Leo Hellden, also a member of Tristesse Contemporaine, and the Englishman Mike Giffts in Paris, creating a hybrid pop that sits between rock, new wave and electronic music. Formed in the early 2010s, Camp Claude grew within the French indie scene by blending pop song structures, airy guitars and a darker, synthetic atmosphere — an aesthetic the trio sometimes compares to cold wave and dream pop. Diane Sagnier’s voice occupies the centre of often mid-tempo compositions built around electronic textures, melodic guitar lines and restrained rhythms. The band became known through a series of singles and EPs before releasing the album Swimming Lessons in 2016 and Double Dreaming in 2019, which extend the tension between rock energy and a more contemplative electronic production. Camp Claude played extensively in clubs and at festivals across France and Europe while developing a carefully crafted visual universe, informed by Diane Sagnier’s experience in photography and filmmaking — a dimension closely tied to the group’s musical identity.
