Chuck Strangers
Born in Brooklyn in 1992 under the name Che Jessamy, Chuck Strangers first established himself within the entourage of the New York collective Pro Era, where his production work circulated from the early 2010s, notably on Joey Bada$$'s mixtape 1999. His career then develops between production and rap, in a hip-hop vein anchored in the New York tradition, with sober instrumentals, discreet soul and jazz loops, and introspective writing with a calm cadence. Chuck Strangers evolves this framework toward a more personal register on Consumers Park in 2018, then on the EP Too Afraid to Dance in 2020 and the EP The Boys & Girls in 2023, where his rapping gains narrative precision and melodic restraint. In 2024, Chuck Strangers releases A Forsaken Lover’s Plea, an album that extends this approach by mixing hushed rap, melancholic textures and daily-life observation. Parallel to his solo work, Chuck Strangers is also part of the duo Bad Tofu with Milc, with whom he releases Affordable Luxuries in 2024, and collaborates occasionally with other artists in the American independent rap scene.
