Fly Anakin

Based in Richmond, Virginia, Fly Anakin has since the mid‑2010s developed a dense and supple rap, nourished by East Coast tradition, soul and jazz rap, with a precise writing style that prioritizes phrasing, everyday imagery and technically adept transitions without ostentation. A founding member of the Mutant Academy collective, he first built himself within a very active group dynamic, between collaborative projects, close collaborations and independent releases, while refining a lo‑fi, warm aesthetic carried by hushed productions. Fly Anakin gradually broadened his audience with several collaborative records, notably FlySiifu’s with Pink Siifu in 2020, followed by $mokebreak in 2021. His solo path took shape with mixtapes and albums such as Backyard Boogie in 2019, at the end of the day in 2020, Skinemaxxx (Side A) in 2021 and Frank in 2022, an album that confirms Fly Anakin’s central place in an independent American rap scene attentive to soul textures, off‑kilter rhythms and free formats. Through his releases, Fly Anakin has also worked with artists like Freddie Gibbs, MAVI, BbyMutha, or redveil, while remaining tied to Richmond’s creative ecosystem.
