Aluk Todolo

Based in France, the instrumental trio Aluk Todolo has been developing since the mid-2000s a sound at the crossroads of occult rock, krautrock, psychedelia and textures derived from black metal. Composed of Shantidas Riedacker (guitar), Matthieu Canaguier (bass) and Antoine Hadjioannou (drums), Aluk Todolo is built around long instrumental pieces founded on repetitive rhythmic motifs, a slow progression and a dynamic approach that swings between minimal tension and denser eruptions. The band emerged from the French underground before establishing itself on Europe’s experimental and metal stages, where its vocal‑free formula — focused on group interplay and framed improvisation — finds a place both in extreme contexts and at festivals oriented toward psychedelic music. Aluk Todolo’s discography includes several long-form albums, notably Descension (2007), Finsternis (2010), Occult Rock (2012) and Voix (2016), which mark different stages in the balance between rock heritage, ritualistic approach and more abstract sonic exploration. This continuity allows Aluk Todolo to move between metal, avant‑garde and noise scenes without strictly identifying with a single genre.
