Originally from Yorkshire, England, and having spent time in Huddersfield before settling in London, aya develops electronic music at the intersection of deconstructed club, fragmented breakbeat, bass music and a more experimental approach to sound. First active under the name LOFT, aya came to prominence around the turn of the 2020s with productions where rhythms remain central but are constantly disrupted by cuts, abrasive textures, processed voices and shifts in density that move the listening between physical tension and abstraction. Her releases on Tri Angle, Astral Plane and Wisdom Teeth accompanied this evolution, before the release of the album im hole in 2021 on Hyperdub. In DJ sets as well as live performances, aya works with a jolting sonic material nourished by the energy of breaks and a taste for unstable forms, situating her both within club circuits and in bookings more open to contemporary experimental music.
