Kate NV

Born in Kazan in 1988 and based in Moscow, Kate NV, the stage name of Ekaterina Shilonosova, has since the early 2010s developed work at the crossroads of experimental pop, electronic music and a light avant-pop, often threaded with echoes of Japanese city pop, film music and a taste for brief, offbeat forms. Kate NV first emerged on the Moscow indie scene with the band Glintshake, before evolving her solo project toward a more personal songwriting, sung in Russian, English or French depending on the track. Her discography under the name Kate NV includes Binasu (2016), для = FOR (2018), Room for the Moon (2020), bouquet (2022) and Wow (2023). Across these records she moved from more abstract material to more open songs, while retaining a fondness for supple rhythms, oblique melodies and spare arrangements. In parallel, Kate NV participated in the Moscow Scratch Orchestra and formed the duo Decisive Pink with Angel Deradoorian in 2022; their first joint album, Ticket to Fame, was released in 2023.
