Seth

Founded in Bordeaux in 1995, Seth is part of the first generation of French black metal with an approach that blends rhythmic violence, razor-sharp guitars and a melodic work more elaborate than the average for the genre. The band first drew attention with the demo Apocalyptic Desires in 1996, then the EP By Fire, Power Shall Be... in 1997, before establishing a more personal frame on Les Blessures de l’âme in 1998, a French-sung album that became a landmark in its discography. Seth then followed with The Excellence in 2000, Divine X in 2002 and Era-Decay in 2004, a period during which its black metal opened to more symphonic textures, to a more theatrical writing and to death and industrial influences at times. After a split in 2005, Seth resumed activity from 2011 and released The Howling Spirit in 2013, then more clearly re-centered its identity around a dark, fast black metal strongly anchored in a French imagery and language with La Morsure du Christ in 2021. The lineup, anchored around guitarist Heimoth and drummer Alsvid, has also marked its path with regular presence on the European metal scene. In 2024, Seth extends this trajectory with La France des Maudits.
