The Great Old Ones

Formed in Bordeaux in 2009, The Great Old Ones develops atmospheric black metal centered on H. P. Lovecraft's universe, where surges of violence, layered guitars and more contemplative passages build long, narrative tracks. The band emerged in the early 2010s with Al Azif (2012), then refined its songwriting on Tekeli-li (2014) and EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy (2017), bringing its black metal foundation closer to post‑metal textures and a broader melodic approach. With Cosmicism (2019) The Great Old Ones continued this immersive approach before Kadath (2022), inspired by The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath and recorded with Francis Caste at Studio Sainte‑Marthe. Present on the extreme metal scenes in France and across Europe, The Great Old Ones belongs to a strand where fantastic literature shapes both themes and musical dynamics—between sustained tension, cold accelerations and atmospheric developments.
