Ebi
Born in Tehran in 1949, Ebi, whose real name is Ebrahim Hamedi, made his mark from the late 1960s in Persian pop, first with groups like Sun Boys and Black Cats before starting a solo career. His music is part of a modern Iranian song tradition nourished by orchestral pop, variety styles, light rock and ballads, carried by an ample and direct interpretation. Based in the United States from 1977, in the context preceding the Iranian revolution, Ebi continues his career within the diaspora and becomes one of the enduring voices of the Persian-speaking scene outside Iran. His discography spans several decades, from Tapesh (1974) and Nazi Naz Kon (1976) to Khalij (1990), Setarehaye Sorbi (1995), Hesse Tanhaee (2011), Jane Javani (2014) and Lalehzaar (2019). Ebi has also led several collaborative projects, notably Noon O Panir O Sabzi with Dariush in 1990, as well as collaborations with Shadmehr Aghili and Googoosh. Between sentimental songs, stage repertoire and socially or politically charged titles like Tasmim, Ebi developed a career closely tied to the cultural circulations between Iran and his exile.
