Sami Beigi
Born in Tehran in 1982 under the name Saman Eshaghbeigi, Sami Beigi grows up between Iran and Sweden, where his family settles when he is a child, a journey that sheds light on his relationship to a Persian pop scene open to R&B and hip-hop. An author, composer, performer and producer, he begins writing early, studies music and first attracts attention at the end of the 2000s within Black Cats, a Persian pop group he joined in 2008 after leaving Sweden for the United States. He is heard on the album Dimbology (2009), before launching his solo trajectory in the early 2010s. Based later in Dubai, Sami Beigi develops a register built on direct melodies, urban pop rhythms, R&B inflections and writing that also borrows from rap codes without leaving the song format. Songs such as In Eshgheh, Ey Joonam, Hamaahang and To Khoobi accompany this phase, as do several collaborations with artists from the Iranian diaspora scene, notably Erfan, Hichkas, Hossein Tohi or members of Zedbazi. His discography also includes the Padshah album (2018), marking a new step in a career conducted between pop song, contemporary production and constant movement between different Persian-speaking scenes.
