ORTIGA

Behind Ortiga stands Chicho, a musician born in 1994 in Santiago de Compostela, whose project is part of the Galician alternative scene while drawing on a very local popular culture — the verbenas, festival orchestras and the merengue he heard as a child. Ortiga thus develops music at the crossroads of Latin pop, tropical rhythms and an alternative sensibility, with a marked taste for blending straightforward hooks, the energy of community dances and a more offbeat approach to songwriting. Active since the late 2010s, Ortiga has gradually made a place for himself in the Galician musical landscape as a solo act, while also leading collective projects such as Boyanka Kostova and Los Rastreadores. His career also includes production work for other artists, among them Carlangas, Manu Chao, Dios Ke Te Crew and Conjunto Amistá. In 2024 Ortiga returns to the stage with a new live lineup, accompanied by Xavi Cea on backing vocals and a brass section, extending a trajectory where Galician festive codes meet contemporary forms of pop and Latin music.
