Rome

The project led by Luxembourgish musician Jérôme Reuter, Rome has developed since the mid‑2000s around a blend of dark folk, neofolk and post‑industrial sounds. Originally based in Luxembourg, Reuter founded Rome in 2005 and quickly released several records on the Welsh label Cold Spring before joining the German Trisol catalogue, where the album 'Nera' (2006) appeared, followed by 'Confessions d’un voleur d’âmes' (2007) and 'Masse Mensch Material' (2008). Rome's music is characterised by sombre acoustic guitars, minimalist arrangements, martial atmospheres and vocal work close to spoken word, with lyrics rich in political, historical and literary references. Over the 2010s Rome broadened its scope towards more rock‑oriented and orchestral forms while retaining a neofolk base, as shown by concept albums such as 'Flowers from Exile' (2009), centred on the Spanish republican exile, and 'Hall of Thatch' (2018). Regularly present on European industrial and alternative music stages, Rome performs both as a compact formation and with an expanded band, adapting its repertoire to contexts ranging from intimate clubs to specialised festivals.
