The Buoys

Formed in Sydney in 2016 around Zoe Catterall, The Buoys sit in an alt rock lineage nourished by melodic punk, nervy guitars and a direct, unadorned writing sensibility. The band, now composed of Zoe Catterall, Tess Wilkin, Courtney Cunningham and Hilary Geddes, first emerged on Cronulla's local scene before settling into the Australian indie rock circuit with short, taut, punchy tracks. After a first EP Soft Boy in 2017, The Buoys evolved their sound toward a broader, more expansive formula without losing their frontline energy, as demonstrated by All This Talking Gets Us Nowhere in 2020 and then Unsolicited Advice for Your DIY Disaster in 2021. Their music pairs abrasive riffs, dry rhythms and clear vocal lines, balancing garage rock, power pop and contemporary punk rock. Over the years, The Buoys have shared bills with acts like DZ Deathrays, Violent Soho, IDLES, Hoodoo Gurus, The Dandy Warhols and Arctic Monkeys, while playing at several Australian festivals. In 2024, The Buoys released their debut album Lustre and the same year issued Check Mate, a collaboration with Alex Lahey, confirming a trajectory built between the indie scene, national tours and reaching a broader audience.
